Trips to Germany

If you are looking for a quality horse at a fair price, German Sport Horse Consulting is definitely the way to go.

My first trip to Germany was in 2002. Prior to that, I had purchased a horse in Holland. Unfortunately, the horse had many problems and was never useable as a sport horse. My experience in Holland made me very skeptical and distrusting of buying horses in Europe. I felt that nobody really looked out for my interests, that my agent in Holland was really only looking out for himself and the seller.

I saw Barbara’s ad in the Chronicle of the Horse. I remembered it because it was so simple, with just a picture of a horse, a few words, and a website. I looked at the website and became more interested, so I called Barbara. We talked and emailed many times over the next few months. I knew I would be traveling alone to Germany, and it made me very nervous. Barbara was very reassuring and answered all my questions. I’m very devoted to dressage, and I felt that it was worth another risk to travel to Germany and see the horses.

I planned a two-week trip, because I wanted to make sure I would have time to try all the horses, make my decision, and see the veterinary exam of the horse. From the moment I arrived, I felt completely at ease. Since I had traveled from Washington State, it had been a very exhausting trip, so the first day we talked about the horses I would see, and drove around to see some of Germany. In fact, I got to see my first cow show!!

Originally, I had been looking for young horse. However, the first horse I saw was a nine year old Hanoverian, trained to about Fourth Level. He was really sweet and a super price. I looked at about ten to twenty other young horses, but I decided to go with the Hanoverian. I was able to see the entire veterinary exam, and ask all the questions I wanted. I’ve had the horse nearly three years now and he competes at Intermediate I. I hope to take him Grand Prix next year.

Since that trip in 2002, I have gone back to Germany twice to buy horses. Each time has been a fantastic experience. Barbara is definitely on the side of the buyer, looking out for your interests and only showing quality horses. I found that there are nice horses in a variety of price ranges. Everything is very transparent; you are told the price of the horse, and you pay the commission separately. It made me feel extremely confident, and I have to say how surprised I was about the affordability of high quality horses. I will always buy horses through Barbara.

Barbara really worked hard to make sure I had enough rest, good food, and lots of fun. We had time to look at horses, and even do some sightseeing. The last time I was there, I went to the stallion parade in Celle. It was so much fun!

I’m glad that traveling to Germany was more than just looking at horses. It was an entire experience. I’ve made friends there, and every time I go back, it’s like I never left.
